Your outcomes

I believe that emotional discomfort, difficulty in life, relationship discord and the symptoms of physical dis-ease are all signposts that can point us toward the deeper root causes. The approaches I use can be effective for all issues with a psychological component including:

  • Generally high levels of 'negative' emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, guilt, grief, dread, anxiety, loneliness and jealousy
  • Self limiting beliefs such as "I'm not good enough", "I'm a failure", "I'm bad", "I can't ..."
  • Reactions such as panic attacks, phobias, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, fear of public speaking
  • States of being such as depression, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, workplace stress, internal conflict and lack of direction
  • Addictions (giving up cigarettes or drugs), compulsions such as OCD
  • Food related issues such as overeating / weight loss, anorexia and bulimia
  • Relationship issues in the family, at work or at home including sexual relationships
  • Relationship with life events including bereavement, post-traumatic stress and recovery from physical and sexual abuse
  • Some clients find therapy has the side-effect of helping alleviate 'physical' illnesses such as IBS, skin complaints, back problems, selective deafness and postural issues

For some clients this is their first experience of therapy or coaching, others may have been working on themselves for so long that they are becoming somewhat jaded. In all cases the results that we achieve are dependent on our ability to work together as a team. To the extent that you are honest, curious and willing to change I am confident that you will get what you really want.

My personal philosophy

I start from the position that, at the highest level, everything is good, true and beautiful. To the extent that we are not experiencing this in our day to day lives then we must be experiencing some kind of distorted view of the world: we are confused about reality.

The state of confusion has come to mean being bewildered or perplexed but its original meaning is to be mingled together. I hypothesize that all distortion and suffering is due to the mingling of our energy with the energy of others. When we become emotionally fused with (unhealthily attached to) others we loose our core sense of who we are and our ability to do what we want. Tensions and pressures that are created between us. The prescription for confusion is simple: let go of all energy that does not belong to us and accept back all energy that does.

In sessions I work with clients to identify and separate from any metaphorical thing that doesn't belong to or serve them. These can be inside the body such as other people's emotions and beliefs (usually mixed up with their own), racing thoughts in the head or anxious knots in the stomach; or outside such as black clouds above, constrictive bands around or heavy weights across the shoulders. The complement to this is the work to reconcile and re-unite those aspects of a client that have become separate. These too can be inside the body such as bottled up emotions or the contents of boredom, emptiness or emotional black holes (repression); or outside such as defensive shields, bubbles, prison cells and observing positions (dissociation).

As you come back to yourself you become more healthy, confident, effective and attractive because there is more of you living life in the here and now.

Our sessions together

I usually work face to face with clients for about 1.5 hours per session. I occasionally work on the telephone.

Rather than working to a prescriptive structure or script I prefer to let each session find its own natural rhythm and flow. Rather than 'talking about' your problems I will support and guide you as you face them and get to the bottom of them. Rather than papering over the cracks with further coping strategies we will aim to find and resolve the causes of the stresses that led to the cracks appearing in the first place. These causes my be from your lifetime, generations ago in your family history or even in a past life. My direct approach often enables very deep work to be done in a brief timescale.

Every session is different but may well include some modeling ("And whereabouts in your stomach is that knot?", "And when you see a bird, then what happens?); dialoguing ("And if Fred was here now ... what would you like to be able to say to him?"); time line work ("Imagine floating way up above your life ... and back to the first time that it ever happened ..."); spatial work ("Move to a space in the room that knows about ..."); visualization ("And if you were to imagine being there now ..."); technique learning (such as 'ha' breathing, meridian tapping or peripheral vision).

During sessions I am very attentive to all my senses - especially to my sense of external feeling. This ability could be called rapport, empathy, intuition or clairsentience. I use it to sense of the emotional structures in and around a client in order to choose and pace my communications.

Time and money

I work flexible hours from 8am to 8pm most week days and occasionally at weekends. We should be able to find a mutually convenient time to work together.

The session rate depends on the day of the week and the time your session starts. We agree the length of a session up front ... usually an hour and a half charged pro-rata.

  • Weekday up to 3.30pm: £50 per hour
  • Weekday after 3.30pm: £60 per hour
  • Weekend any time: £70 per hour

In addition to this I keep a £50 fully refundable deposit from all my clients to insure me against late cancellations.
